UNREASONABLE DEMANDS?

http://bit.ly/mHKNBb
This link will take you to a press release from a major international airline on the subject of an industrial relations dispute it has with its licenced engineers. I have no knowledge of either side's case in the dispute, and perhaps even less interest but I had to read twice one of the demands that the union have on the table - it is beyond belief! They are asking for 'guaranteed staff travel' privileges, which would displace fare paying passengers. Staff travel never has, and never could work like this; it makes no commercial sense and staff need to recognise the commercial imperatives of their employers.

In my last airline job I well recall sitting next to the corporate president in economy, because there were no seats left in the premium classes. If economy had also been full we would both have been sitting at check-in waiting for the next flight. That is how staff travel works - be glad of the privilege...
